Arise, Shine
Rwanda! - DVD
“When the sun shines, other people
can see because of its light. So if Rwanda is going to shine, that means Rwanda
must have rays. Maybe in the future, if people look at Rwanda, then they will
not see the genocide or think about all the killings but see Rwanda in a
different light altogether. This is a prophecy I want to see fulfilled soon!”
- Josephine, mother of Patrick.

A heart-warming story.....
‘Arise, Shine Rwanda DVD’ was filmed in May 2005, and tells the heart-warming
story about the making of a childrens worship album in Rwanda in 2003, and the
impact this experience has made on the lives of the 60 children who sang these
songs on healing, forgiveness and hope for the future.
Born into a nation torn apart by genocide, these children, drawn from both main
ethnic groups (hutu and tutsi), grew up knowing tragedy, sorrow and bitterness.
Yet something happened during these weeks of fun and games, singing, recording
and concert performances; prayers were prayed and new friendships were made
across enormous social and tribal divides.
A day in the life of two Rwandan children ...
We follow the daily lives of two 10 year old girls in particular; Pauline, a
hutu orphan from a poor background, and Jovanis, a tutsi girl from a
professional, middle-class family. We asked them to tell us if they think Rwanda
can be different in the future ...and talk to some parents to see if they agree!
Rabagirana
Rwanda! (Arise, Shine Rwanda!) - CD
Following on from the success of
“Mana, kiza u Rwanda” this album
features 12 new African language children’s worship songs on the themes of
healing, joy, and new hope for the future, sung by 60 Rwandese children with
accompanying adult harmonies. This album is arranged in a typically modern-day
Rwandese cultural style with guitars and synths, but with more traditional
percussion instruments replacing a drum kit.
The songs were written specifically for children by
Rwandese Christians who attended a worship songwriters workshop held in Byumba,
Rwanda, in June 2002. Many of the songwriters are the same young worship leaders
who contributed to our first Rwandese album, (Mana, kiza u Rwanda!) and are both
hutu and tutsi, drawn from many denominational backgrounds and from across the
ethnic divide.
