OUT OF DARKNESS ...
Ten years ago was such a dark time in the history of Rwanda. Convulsed by
genocide, seemingly alone and without help from the outside world, Rwanda
endured 100 days of brutality and murder on an epic scale. Families and local
neighbourhoods were literally torn apart; large parts of the country became a
war zone. Television screens around the world were filled with the sight of
refugees fleeing in their thousands to neighbouring countries and even further
afield. Yet in Rwanda’s hour of need the world deserted her. Alone and without
hope, few Rwandese even dared to believe they could survive. The very name of
the nation itself became synonymous the world over with the triumph of evil,
grief and mourning. Could hope ever return?
....INTO HIS MARVELOUS LIGHT!
But now in 2004, can this be the same nation? Many refugees have returned; there
is peace, political stability, and a new spirit of hope in the air. The truth is
that even in the midst of such tragedy, God did not stand idly by. He has been
powerfully at work in Rwanda these past ten years, and continues to be at work
today. Through the years, many who were grieving are finding comfort, those
caught in the snare of resentment and bitterness are discovering the freedom of
forgiving, the wounded are finding healing, the lost salvation .....individual
stories abound across the nation of the miraculous power of God at work,
bringing justice and forgiveness, grace, love, joy, and fresh hope to young and
old alike for the future!! No wonder many of our Rwandese songwriters want to
celebrate and give thanks to God in their songs on this new album!
BLESSED IS THE NATION, WHOSE GOD IS THE LORD! (Ps 33 v.12)
Following on from the success of our previous two worship albums “Mana, kiza u
Rwanda” and “Rabagirana Rwanda!” released in 2000 and 2002, We Are One! has once
again partnered with African Evangelistic Enterprise - Rwanda to produce this
album, containing songs written by Rwandese Christians from widely differing
ethnic backgrounds, church denominations and parts of the country.
Here are 12 wonderful new worship songs that carry this message of thanksgiving,
celebration and new hope for the future! There are songs that speak truthfully
about Rwanda’s past and of the realities of daily life, but also speak of the
power of the cross of Christ to bring new hope and healing from the bitter
wounds of the past. Songs that speak tenderly of God bringing comfort to his
people. Songs that issue a strong call to prayer across the nation for a future
outpouring of God’s Spirit across the land. Songs that look outward towards
other nations and proclaim that Jesus is Lord, not only of Rwanda but Africa
also. And finally, there are songs that simply radiate tremendous joy and an
overwhelming love of Jesus; proclaiming to the nation as a whole that now is the
time to give wholehearted thanks and praise to God who has triumphed over the
forces of evil!
IT’S TIME TO CELEBRATE AND GIVE THANKS TO GOD!
And what of the Rwandese men and women who sing on this album? Many of them have
powerful stories to tell of the grace and love of God touching their own lives
deeply in the midst of personal tragedy. They also look back over these past ten
years with deep gratitude in their hearts at all that God has done and continues
to do in Rwanda.
I know they all carry a fervent hope in their hearts, not only that Rwanda will
look forward as a nation to a hope-filled future; but also that she will herself
become a beacon of light among the nations of Africa and even the world, a
shining example of the awesome power and grace of God to reshape a nation’s
destiny.
